§ 11-6. Parental responsibility for criminal mischief and theft by minors.

  • (a)

    This section reaffirms parental responsibilities and victim remedies provided under state law by making such a matter of local law applicable to damages caused by minors within the municipal boundaries of the city. It is the further intent of this section to increase public awareness of parental responsibility in regard to such matters and the availability of remedies to victims of criminal mischief and theft caused by minors.

    (b)

    The parents or legal guardian of any unemancipated minor, who lives with his or her parents or legal guardian and such minor is liable for damages under F.S. (1995) § 741.24 or 772.11, shall also be liable, and responsible, for such damages to the full extent provided for in such statutory provisions.

    (c)

    The city hereby adopts and incorporates herein by reference, F.S. (1995) 772.11 and 741.24, as if set forth herein verbatim.

    (d)

    The application of one civil remedy under this section does not preclude the application of any other remedy, civil or criminal, under this section or any other provision of law.
