§ 18-156. Enforcement.

  • (a)

    Golf carts, utility vehicles and low-speed vehicles shall comply with all local and state traffic laws, and may be cited for traffic violations in the same manner as other vehicles.

    (b)

    Enforcement of infractions of this section shall be as provided in F.S. ch. 316, as may be amended. At its option, the city may also issue notices of violation and process those violations through its code enforcement procedures before its special magistrate and/or alternate special magistrate in accordance with the provisions set forth in sections 2-61 through 2-68 of this Code and F.S. ch. 162.

    (c)

    In the event the city elects to enforce infractions through its code enforcement procedures before its special magistrate and/or alternate special magistrate, then the minimum penalty for a first violation under this section is up to a maximum of two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) per day per violation. A second or subsequent violation is punishable up to a maximum of five hundred dollars ($500.00) per day per violation. However, the special magistrate and/or alternate special magistrate may impose a maximum fine not to exceed five thousand dollars ($5,000.00) if he or she makes a finding that the violation was irreparable and irreversible in nature.
