§ 14-1. Definitions.

  • The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this chapter, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

    Garbage shall mean waste resulting from the handling, preparation, cooking and consumption of food including wastes from the handling, storage and sale of produce.

    Hazardous waste shall mean any waste and material as may be defined by federal law or state law that constitutes a threat to the health and safety of the public or the environment.

    Refuse shall mean combustible waste including but not necessarily limited to paper, cartons, boxes, barrels, wood, excelsior, tree branches, yard trimmings, furniture, bedding, ashes and noncombustible waste, including but not limited to metals, tin cans, metal furniture, dirt, small quantities of rock and pieces of concrete, glass, crockery, other mineral waste and street waste, including but not limited to, street sweepings, dirt, leaves, catch-basin dirt and contents of litter receptacles.
